DmC: Devil May Cry (PS3/X360 - January 15th, 2013)

With the avalanche of quality games burying us at the end of this year, it’s important not to forget that there will be no breathing room for your quickly dissipating money once the new year rolls around.

Case in point: January’s release of DmC, the first of many from 2013’s list of Must-Own Games.  I can hardly pay attention to 2012’s Must-Own’s with events like Tokyo Game Show informing me on how exactly I’ll go broke in the future.  Seriously, Borderlands 2 is watching me over my shoulder – a disdainful, cel-shaded sneer on its face – as I write this.  I gotta get back to her (you know how she gets).

I’ll leave you with this brand new DmC trailer from TGS.  Seeing how games are marketed in other countries will do you good.  Trust me, it’ll make you worldly (or something).

Brothers in Devil Arms: New DmC Images and Footage Hack Their Way Out of Gamescom

While the rebooted Devil May Cry universe is barely recognizable when stacked up against the original titles that hasn’t stopped Ninja Theory from utilizing familiar aspects of Dante’s mythos.  Ebony & Ivory are there, yup, and Rebellion, too.  Dante’s still the son of Sparda; that hasn’t changed.  And, hell, the first game’s big bad, Mundus, has been re-imagined for good measure.

Now, Dante’s own brother and (initially) arch nemesis Vergil has returned.  Flipping the script on his dreams of world domination from Devil May Cry 3, however, the DmC universe paints Vergil as an underground hero, controlling the anti-demon organization called The Order.  Are things really that simple, though?  Knowing Ninja Theory and judging from the dual-world nature of their reboot…Hell no.

Watch the new trailer featuring the debut of DmC’s Vergil.

New DmC Trailer Straight From Japan (Even Though the Game Isn’t)

Check out the gameplay trailer here.

Germany centered video game shindig GamesCom doesn’t kick off until next week yet hungry eyes are able to catch a glimpse of what Capcom and Ninja Theory will be showing off at the convention for Devil May Cry.

Even without having touched the game, many may already be acquainted with the new Dante’s brutal brawler-with-a-sword style of fighting from one of several action showcases the developer has let loose.  Opting for some variety, this newer, sonically displeasing trailer displays more of Dante’s platforming prowess.  Already, this is one area that seems to have been considerately improved upon from the series’ PS2 days (if you don’t remember, just believe me when I say fixed perspectives and depth perception get along like stupid kids with untied shoes and escalators).

Dante’s Piano Repair Tee Available at the Capcom Store ($19.95)

Listen, it’s a rough economy out there and filling demons full of holes doesn’t quite cover the bills.  That’s why Dante has himself a stylish piano repair business that takes its name from his favorite harmonious means of shooting things in the face, Ebony & Ivory.  If saving the mortal coil isn’t enough, at least something’s putting pizza on the table.
